    Rana Sagha Zadeh, M.Arch., Ph.D., Associate AIA, LEED AP, EDAC, is an associate professor and the co-director and co-founder of HDIL. With a background in human-centered and evidence-based design, she leads her team in research to translate evidence into effective and affordable solutions that change living and caring environments for the better.

  • Mardelle McCuskey Shepley

    HDIL Co-Director, Professor

    Dr. Mardelle McCuskey Shepley, B.A., M.Arch., M.A., D.Arch, is a professor at Cornell and chair of the Department of Design and Environmental Analysis. Her research focuses on the design of mental and behavioral health facilities. Her other research area is the impact of parks on the reduction of violent crime.

  • Franklin Becker

    Professor Emeritus

    Professor Becker is a founding editor of the Journal of Corporate Real Estate and the Journal of Facilities Management, and is on the Advisory Board of the Health Environments Research and Design Journal and the California Healthcare Foundation. He is the Co-Chair of the Research Coaliton of the Center for Health Design, Professor Becker is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, and a member of the International Facility Management Association. His research focuses on health and design. Specifically, he is involved with studies examining the influence of nursing unit design on communication and interaction patterns among multi-disciplinary clinical teams; and the effects of such communication on informal learning, job stress an quality of care.

  • David Feathers

    HDIL Co-Director, Professor

    Dave Feathers was an assistant professor of ergonomics and human-centered design with a background in engineering, anthropology, and rehabilitation technology. His research and teaching consider applied anatomy and biomechanics to evaluate the diversity of human interactions with products and environments. He is currently a human factors engineer at Apple.
